Simple Rosette with Red Abalone 1/8th", installed with bwb French purflings, fiber, and white Titebond. I didn't use teflon, rather I just sweated it out. The two hardest pieces were the last two, had to fight the purfling but I finally won with that big old hammer.

Hey Michael,

Yeah that little ceramic Dremel wheel is fine for this job. My first took twenty six trips over to the grinder and back. My second I hand held and did this way, by eye. The third, shucks I just made a route on a bad piece of spruce to hold the diameter and made the slot to get the angle pretty close. It's fairly accurate, but also forgiving.

The purfling did have to have one extra splice, but I'm not telling anyone where it is spliced. I think it's good enough to leave totally exposed by the fretboard. Not perfect, but good.

That was Wilson wasn't it. Okay, tomorrow, I publish the pics of very very good news. The top is braced and ready for me to carve the braces. I left the Transverse Brace off, and I think I'll wait until the boat arrives to glue it on. Depending on the neckblock and extension, I want some wiggle room, if you know what I mean.

When you gonna ship that thing and do you need some cash to do that? I'll drum up some help. We might as well let some other folks in on this good deed. I'm really pumped about this guitar. Maybe someone can record with it when it's finished so we can all get to hear it.

Back is done and I'm still waiting on kerfed lining from Lance to do the rims and glue the back on. As soon as I get it I'll drop what I'm doing and crank it out. I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting.

R U Out? I can send a couple strips today? Lemme KNOW. Some of that Cool CFox type would look great....

As Lance said, I should have it soon. I thought the concensus was to use reversed kerf linings which is why I waited/bugged Lance. If it were my call, sure I would have used mine but I was under the impression that everyone wanted this.
I've only got Aspen linings anyway and most people want the S.Cedar/Mohogany look.

All 13 pieces of it. I'm guessing Lance didn't send it that way and we can thank our lovely USPS for making bite-sized pieces out of it.
Question: Do I want to try to piece it together (it's reversed kerf) or shall I put my lining in it. If I go the route of my lining, I've only got Aspen cut but can kerf some mahogany if I have to (I'd rather not though).
Give me some feedback. P

That aspen will match the bracing. Toss in three or four side splints and it'll be outrageously beautiful inside....

Ok, I'll go ahead and line it with mine. I think it will look good but wanted to make sure my tastes were the same as other's.

I like the Idea of Aspen. When I lived in Durango is use Aspen for a lot of thing, but I was not building guitar then. Very strong very light. makes wounderful back packing staffs

Things have gone well today. I've been crankin' on this.
I started out with the back and added the two "star" braces that intersect the X.

Then I moved on to the rimset. As the lining that Lance sent came to me in 13 pieces, it was suggested that I go ahead and use my linings. (CFox style) So here they are grouped and ready to bend.

Here's how they are bent. ( I know everyone knows this but thought it would be good for the journal).

Here are the linings after bending.

Then the linings are clamped into the rimset. This is a long process as there are 8 pieces that all need to get clamped in.

Then to the grinder to profile the back and top of the rim to accept the guitar's back and top. Here is the completed rimset.

Once profiled, the back is glued on in a raduised dish.

Tomorrow's task is to route the lip off the back, pack it up and ship it of to Bruce.

Aha, Paul!

I was perusing the pics again and said, "Where's the mold." "There's no mold."

Then it hit me. Those are reverse kerf type two-part linings with a solid inner core. I remember reading about them on CFox Tour by Frank Ford on www.frets.com
